Do Colonics Help To Flatten Your Stomach?
Nearly one-third of the world’s population is obese or overweight, according to the latest data. Currently, 2.1 billion people – that’s roughly 30% of the world’s population – are classified as being either obese or overweight, including 16o million in the US alone.
And it’s not just waistlines that are getting bigger. It’s been estimated that health care costs are likewise expanding with the obesity epidemic, making a bad situation even worse.
However, the good news is that colon hydrotherapy, commonly referred to as a colonic, can quite often help to flatten the stomach.
What is a Colonic?
Besides just helping to reduce the extra padding around the belly, colonics are also an excellent way to stay healthy. Colonics are able to not only detoxify the body, but can also prevent and even reverse health conditions.
Similar to enemas, colonics work by cleansing the colon, but go much farther and are far more thorough. Where an enema only goes part-way into the large intestine, a colonic cleanses the entire intestinal tract, from the colon to the small intestines, making it a superior way to clean and detoxify.
Since the people who administer colonics , who are known as hydrotherapists, aren’t doctors, it’s recommended that you talk with your physician prior to getting a colonic.
Can a Colonic Flatten Your Stomach?
Because of poor eating habits, food that is undigested gets caught up in the colon and spoils. Eventually, this undigested food waste increases in the gut, causing the stomach to protrude.
This turns out to be a common reason for why people have stubborn belly fat that refuses to go away – it’s mainly because of a clogged colon. Some post-mortem examinations on adult bodies have reported colons with barely the diameter of a pencil!
Luckily, colonic hydrotherapy can remove these blockages of toxic undigested foods and help flatten the stomach in the process.
Colon cleansing is critical for losing weight, and having a clean colon can dramatically reduce food cravings.
The normal recommendation to begin the hydrotherapy process is to have a colonic every other day over a 30-day period, for a total of 15 colonics. Typically, the average individual can lose anywhere from 5 – 15 lbs from this program.
However, this type of intensive cleansing can cause the detoxification process to happen at a rapid rate. This can potentially result in any number of unpleasant detox side-effects (commonly referred to as the Herxheimer effect), including fever, chills, headaches, nausea, dizziness, sore throat, and other flu-like symptoms.
Are Colonics Safe?
When being administered by a qualified hydrotherapist, having a colonic is a safe and painless process. That said, there are some things you can do on your part to ensure that the whole thing goes as smoothly as possible.
One important step is to verify that the facility where the colonic is administered is clean and uses purified water. Also, check the colon hydrotherapist’s credentials. It’s also recommended that you opt for a disposable scope, which is the small tube that’s inserted into the rectum.
When administered by a qualified professional, the only other side-effects other than potential detox symptoms, is a loss of beneficial bacteria in the gut. However, this can easily be corrected by using a quality probiotic supplement.
How Much is Too Much?
One colonic by itself is too insufficient to be very effective. I’ve talked before about how having too many colonics can be harmful, including causing a loss of nutrients and a weakening of the colon, but how much colon hydrotherapy is too much?
When first starting out, it’s recommended that you receive a series of seven colonics, and after that you can get a colonic every three months, as sort of a “maintenance” colonic. However, you can have a colonic as often as two times per week.
It all comes down to how well your body is able to deal with the rate of detoxification. As always, it’s important listen to what your body is saying first!
